The original owners of Villa Casanova were the Balbanis - a family of wealthy merchants, who later gave their name to this locality – Balbano - and also owned two palazzi in Lucca. More recently, the property was purchased by Marianne and Adel Ismail, who had not long finished restoring a smaller villa nearby as a holiday home for themselves. Villa Casanova had, by then, already been turned into a hotel, which had failed and closed. The couple undertook a total renovation, reducing the number of bedrooms, but increasing the size of the 14 they finished up with, to form luxurious suites.

The new, five-star Albergo Villa Casanova opened in December 2009.

This elegant and distinctive hotel, combining traditional Tuscan country style with contemporary comforts, is a luxurious oasis of peace and tranquillity surrounded by beautiful Tuscan countryside. It is a only a short drive from the medieval, walled town of Lucca – birthplace of the composer Giacomo Puccini - which is a delight to explore; and it is only a few kilometres from Torre del Lago, where the world-famous Puccini Festival is held in the open-air theatre every year - festival dates for 2016 are July 15 - August 13. Lucca itself has an annual Festival in July, at which big names from the world of music perform on-stage in the main square, Piazza Napoleone.

Albergo Villa Casanova is the perfect setting for a romantic escape – or even a wedding in the small private chapel, dating back to the 17th Century (see more information below). It’s ideal as a touring base for those who want to stay in a rural setting, and the area is good for walking and cycling as well. this hotel would be an equally excellent choice for those who simply want to relax, and enjoy good food and wine.
